AACS Students Receiving Over 4,300 Books

Book Donation

The Ashtabula Area City Schools in partnership with United Way of Ashtabula County, Country Neighbor, and a grant from Dominion Energy to the Cleveland Kids Book Bank received two pallets of children’s books on Tuesday November 26th. Each pallet has 36 boxes with 60 books each, so AACS students will be receiving over 4,300 books from this grant.

Ashtabula Area City Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Potts stated, “This is a real blessing for our students. I would like to thank our Dr. Kelly Washington at AACS for overseeing the project, to Kristen Kitchen from United Way of Ashtabula County for alerting us to this opportunity and helping see it through, and to Judy Payne of the Cleveland Kids Book Bank. Also this would not have been possible without the generous grant from Dominion Energy and Country Neighbor who took care of the pickup and delivery for us. This was truly a community effort and shows the positive results we can achieve when we work together as a community.”

Dr. Kelly Washington commented “it was truly my pleasure to work with such great people like Judy Payne and Kristen Kitchen.  A special thank you to Dr. Potts for allowing me this opportunity to oversee this project.   It is a blessing to be able to ensure a book gets in every child’s hand for them to take home and share with their families”.

"United Way of Ashtabula County is honored to play a role in connecting AACS students and families with gently used books for their home libraries through Cleveland Kids Book Bank and Dominion East Ohio,” commented United Way Executive Director Kristen Kitchen. “We extend our gratitude to UWAC partner charity Country Neighbor for making this opportunity a reality by transporting the books directly to AACS."

The district is planning a future family community engagement event where the books will be distributed to the children and their families.
